Jyotipriya whom I met by the Grace of the Mother at the East West Cultural Center in Los Angeles and wrote to Mother about me, was very close to Prithwi Singh. When Mother replied that I could come to the Ashram and stay as long as I liked, Jyotipriya wrote to Prithwi Singh and asked him to 'take me under his wing'. He did so, as a loving father figure, and introduced me to his family. I became close to all of them for they invited me into their home and they treated me, a young man, age 23, with such love and kindness that I shall ever be grateful to them.
His two sons, Abhay Singh and Noren Singh (both having passed on) were also very kind to me and I had a very close relationship with both of them and would visit them frequently. His daughters, Sumitra and Suprabha remain with us and to this day when we meet they greet me with warm welcomes. Sujata, the companion of Satprem, was also very close to Mother and has now returned to Her arms.
Prithwi Singh was a great inspiration for me. When he was nearly and I believe, legally blind, he typed the Life Divine for Sri Aurobindo, one of the few who could read Sri Aurobindo's handwriting and wearing the thickest glasses I had ever seen.
If you refer to our website, www.motherandsriaurobindo.in and type in his name you will be surprised and delighted to see how many letters Mother and Sri Aurobindo wrote to him and how they cared for him, sending a fan to cool him, recommending glasses for him and answering his numerous questions.
One that has touched me very deeply is his letter about Mother's "Prayers and Meditations". I am only paraphrasing since I haven't been able to locate it as yet, but he writes to Sri Aurobindo and says that he feels that Mother herself was not praying to the Lord but showing us how to pray to Him and Sri Aurobindo confirms his feeling.
Here is a photo I took as he left his office one day and walked into the Ashram courtyard.
